BIOGRAPHY

Shawn Fongemie, a West Hartford native has been committed to strengthening individuals and communities through leadership roles in the nonprofit sector; often being viewed not only as a leader but as a collaborator, coach, connector, and most recently life practitioner.

Over the last decade, Shawn experienced the dissolution of a family, the reality of a refugee camp, the lesson of peacefully transitioning a lifelong friend, and the isolation and polarity of a pandemic. These experiences have only deepened his passion for his studies in human behavior, empathy, and compassion; uncovering the importance of living a truly authentic life.

Happiness cannot be manufactured, life is hard and it is messy, and knowing your true authentic self is when happiness can be obtained and the hard and messy are beautiful.

As a life practitioner, Shawn’s passion is to facilitate personal growth in others through the Japanese belief of ikigai (a reason for being), kenshō (seeing one’s true nature), and wabi sabi (seeing the beauty in imperfection). This belief allows for an awareness of self through seeing, appreciating, and loving yourself first. His philosophy is simple “don’t live for others until you die, die living your true authentic life”.

Shawn believes that living in polarity with oneself affects the whole of humankind and that living intentionally can change the world. There are no mistakes in life, and as long as you are learning, you are winning.
